    Selection of Ontologies for the Semantic Web

    The development of the Semantic Web has encouraged the creation of ontologies in a great variety of domains. Web users currently looking for ontologies in order to incorporate them into their systems, just use their experience and intuition. This makes it difficult for them to justify their choices. Mainly, this is due to the lack of methods that help the user to measure that the most appropriate ontologies for the new system are. To solve this deficiency, this work proposes a method which allows the users to measure the suitability of the existent ontologies, regarding the requirements of their systems

    BAYESIAN ANALYSIS OF THE COMPOUND COLLECTIVE MODEL: THE NET PREMIUM PRINCIPLE WITH EXPONENTIAL POISSON AND GAMMA–GAMMA DISTRIBUTIONS

    This article develops a Bayesian analysis of the Compound Collective Model utilizing the Net Premium Principle, considering single-period models. With respect to likelihoods, we used a Poisson distribution for the number of claims and an Exponential distribution for the severity of the accident/event. Gamma distributions were used for the prior distributions. The robustness of the posterior premium was analyzed with respect to the prior distribution specification of the severity of the accident/event, utilizing contamination classes, these being the class of all the distributions and that of all the unimodal distributions with the same mode. Numerical applications of the results obtained were performed.Compound collective model; Bayesian analysis; Robustness analysis.

    Enriching Ontologies with Multilingual Information

    Organizations working in a multilingual environment demand multilingual ontologies. To solve this problem we propose LabelTranslator, a system that automatically localizes ontologies. Ontology localization consists of adapting an ontology to a concrete language and cultural community. LabelTranslator takes as input an ontology whose labels are described in a source natural language and obtains the most probable translation into a target natural language of each ontology label. Our main contribution is the automatization of this process which reduces human efforts to localize an ontology manually. First, our system uses a translation service which obtains automatic translations of each ontology label (name of an ontology term) from/into English, German, or Spanish by consulting different linguistic resources such as lexical databases, bilingual dictionaries, and terminologies. Second, a ranking method is used to sort each ontology label according to similarity with its lexical and semantic context. The experiments performed in order to evaluate the quality of translation show that our approach is a good approximation to automatically enrich an ontology with multilingual information

    Evaluation of the changes in working limits in an automobile assembly line using simulation

    The aim of the work presented in this paper consists of the development of a decision-making support system, based on discrete-event simulation models, of an automobile assembly line which was implemented within an Arena simulation environment and focused at a very specific class of production lines with a four closed-loop network configuration. This layout system reflects one of the most common configurations of automobile assembly and preassembly lines formed by conveyors. The sum of the number of pallets on the intermediate buffers, remains constant, except for the fourth closed-loop, which depends on the four-door car ratio (x) implemented between the door disassembly and assembly stations of the car body. Some governing equations of the four closed-loops are not compatible with the capacities of several intermediate buffers for certain values of variable x. This incompatibility shows how the assembly line cannot operate in practice for x0,97 in a stationary regime, due to the starvation phenomenon or the failure of supply to the machines on the production line. We have evaluated the impact of the pallet numbers circulating on the first closed-loop on the performance of the production line, translated into the number of cars produced/hour, in order to improve the availability of the entire manufacturing system for any value of x. Until the present date, these facts have not been presented in specialized literature. © 2012 American Institute of Physics

    Correlation structure of the δ_(n) statistic for chaotic quantum systems

    The existence of a formal analogy between quantum energy spectra and discrete time series has been recently pointed out. When the energy level fluctuations are described by means of the δ_(n) statistic, it is found that chaotic quantum systems are characterized by 1/f noise, while regular systems are characterized by 1/f(2). In order to investigate the correlation structure of the δ_(n) statistic, we study the qth-order height-height correlation function C-q(tau), which measures the momentum of order q, i.e., the average qth power of the signal change after a time delay tau. It is shown that this function has a logarithmic behavior for the spectra of chaotic quantum systems, modeled by means of random matrix theory. On the other hand, since the power spectrum of chaotic energy spectra considered as time series exhibit 1/f noise, we investigate whether the qth-order height-height correlation function of other time series with 1/f noise exhibits the same properties. A time series of this kind can be generated as a linear combination of cosine functions with arbitrary phases. We find that the logarithmic behavior arises with great accuracy for time series generated with random phases
